OJ Johnson is an multidisciplinary artist from Idaho now based in San Francisco, CA. Their work blends playfulness, movement, and wearability through various mediums while favoring silver. Growing into their queerness while being raised within the teachings of the Catholic Church has been a recurring theme of exploration in their work. Drawing inspiration from architecture, natural landscape, dreams, and memory, OJ continues to use their surroundings and experiences to inform their practice in new ways.In 2024, they graduated with a BFA in Visual Arts, with an emphasis in Sculpture and Art Jewelry & Metalsmithing from Boise State University. Throughout their time in Idaho, they were deeply embedded in the arts community, working alongside various designers and artists, organizing events through the Backyard Artists and Boise State University. During these years, they were also able to spend time at Penland School of Craft learning and assisting in the small metals studio. After graduating, they were selected to be an intern for the Design and Build program- creating public art sculptures for the Museum of Outdoor Arts. Since moving to the Bay, OJ has begun working at the Museum of Modern Art as a preparator, fabricator, and frame builder alongside their own jewelry practice. They can often be found grazing the streets and trails of the bay for new objects and shapes.
